Jameela Hyland TATUCA Scholarship Recipient 2010
I’m a Program Initiative Manager at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, where I oversee multiple public health initiatives that connect New Yorkers to health insurance enrollment services and health care access resources with a strong focus on health equity. I’m also a member of TATUCA where I enjoy serving on the Scholarship Committee and providing insight and recommendations for various fundraising events throughout the year. My dreams are to work within a renowned global organization such as the Center of Disease Control or the United Nations where I can make an impact on people’s lives on a large public health scale, through health education and awareness. Furthermore, I would love to manage my very own non-profit that serves marginalized communities in the United States and Trinidad & Tobago. My journey to this point has not been easy, but with the strong support of my family and friends and financial assistance awarded to me by TATUCA during my academic journey, allowed me to achieve many accomplishments to which I owe them great thanks. It’s great being able to give back through my involvement with TATUCA in the West Indian community.

My name is Dr. Kwesi Gill and I am a dedicated Pediatric Dentist with over 5 years of experience working with kids of all ages to promote healthy oral dental care habits.
I was born and raised in Laventille, Trinidad and Tobago and migrated to the United States in 2003 with the goal of advancing my education.
The generous assistance and support of the Trinidad & Tobago United Community Association, Inc (TATUCA) Scholarship contributed to my pursuit of undergraduate studies at Queens College, New York City, where I graduated with honors in Mathematics.
Upon graduation, I moved to Washington, DC where I attended Howard University School of Dentistry and subsequently completed my residence in Pediatric dentistry.
With great determination and persistence, in 2018, I opened my own Dental Practice. Easy Breezy Kids Dental. The Practice offers a wide range of pediatric and orthodontic, through the latest dental technology and research. I am passionate about ensuring each patient has access to the best that modern dentistry has to offer.
I am grateful to have been selected as one of the recipients of the TATUCA Scholarship as it has opened the door to a brighter future and inspired me to help others and give back to the community. .

Soon after, I began working with New York City Department of Education as a Teacher. In 2018, I obtained my master’s degree at Touro College with a degree in early childhood education. At this time, I am thinking about pursuing a degree in education administration in order to become an assistant Principal and potential principal. Once again, thanks for assisting me on my pathway to my career journey.
